The church of San Giorgio, one of the masterpieces of Modenese scenic Baroque, was built around the middle of the 17th century to a design by the ducal architect Gaspare Vigarani.
The interior features a dynamic Greek-cross space, articulated by two linked orders that define a wide tribune running around the entire perimeter of the church.
On the high altar is the fresco of the Madonna Ausiliatrice del Popolo Modenese, painted in 1617 by Pietro Paolo dell’Abate based on the Virgin in the church of Santa Maria della Vita in Bologna.
