Domenico Tintoretto, Luigi Sassi
The church of San Martino, of medieval origins, was rebuilt between 1600 and 1606 at the behest of Carlo Filiberto I d’Este, Marquis of San Martino, who also wanted to establish a chapter of canons in his small capital. The new building, with a beautiful Renaissance layout inspired by that of the Madonna della Ghiara in Reggio, houses several interesting works of art, including from the medieval church, such as the 15th-century fresco of the Madonna and Child and the 14-century capital which serves as the base of the baptismal font.
