Description

The magnificent palace of Gualtieri bears witness to the feudal history of the Po valley village: built by Cornelio Bentivoglio and enlarged by his son Ippolito, it was the centre of the fiefdom granted to the family by the House of Este in recognition of the land reclamation works carried out. Passed in the 17th century to the reigning house and then to other families, it was purchased in the 18th century by the municipality, which had it partially demolished to carry out works to control the great river. Despite this, the palace is still legible in its mighty monumentality, and still retains ample traces of the frescoed cycle that adorns the colossal hall of honour.
