Description

The Palazzo del Governatore, built in 1502 after Cento came under Este rule, housed the governors sent by the dukes of Ferrara until 1598 and, after the devolution, the papal governors. The façade, which still has a late-Gothic flavour, owes much of its current appearance to restorations carried out in 1919. The tower, the work of Cento architect Francesco Giraldini, is an interesting example of the influence of Roman and Po Valley Mannerist culture on the provincial area.
