Naselli Crispi Palace (Palazzo Naselli Crispi)

Palazzo Naselli constitutes one of the first examples of the importation, in the Este city, of architectural forms successfully tested in Rome in the early 16h century, albeit with some interesting variations. The building, commissioned by Canon Giuliano Naselli, reflects the patron’s culture, not only literary but also architectural, in the display of erudite mottos carved on the façade, as well as in the clear planimetric organisation. The designer’s name is more uncertain: studies have often hypothesised, but without documentary evidence, the name of Girolamo da Carpi. Begun in 1533, and passed to the Crispi family in the second half of the 16th century, it is now the offices of the Consortium for the Reclamation of the Ferrara Plain.
