Chiesa di San Francesco / Chiesa di San Francesco d'Assisi
Francesco IV
Mario Guerzoni
The church of San Francesco has been a treasure trove of Mirandolese memories for centuries. Long protected by the Pico family, it houses four important 15th-century sepulchral monuments belonging to the family. The austere Late Gothic architecture is enlivened by beautiful moulded terracotta cornices. The convent building, renovated in the 19th century at the behest of Francesco IV, Duke of Modena, and enlarged and provided with a new 15th-century-style façade in the first half of the 20th century, still retains the original 15th-century cloister inside.
The church and convent were severely damaged in the 2012 earthquake and are still being restored.
