Francesco d'Este
Benvenuto Tisi
The church of Massa Lombarda, burial place of the Marquis Francesco d’Este, was built at the beginning of the 16th century on the site of a smaller church of medieval origins. Built according to a tradition unsupported by documents by Bartolomeo Suardi, known as Bramantino, it is a basilica-plan church with three naves on Tuscan columns. The historicist façade is the result of restoration work carried out between 1838 and 1842. Inside the church there are copies of two important paintings by Bastianino and Garofalo, donated by Francesco d’Este and now on display in the civic museum.
