Description

The Delizia del Verginese only entered the property of the House of Este in 1533, when Alfonso I gave it to his son Ercole II; previously, the agricultural estate had been managed by Francesco Cantelmo, Duke of Sora. The property soon passed, however, to Laura Dianti, who probably had the currently visible building constructed, perhaps to a design by Girolamo da Carpi. It then passed to the Guidi di Bagno family, who were responsible for the internal 18th-century decorations, and was then used for agricultural purposes. It has only recently been bought by the province and restored.

Of great interest is the layout of the external spaces: behind the building, a 16th-century orchard has been replanted, which has the majestic passing dovecote tower as a backdrop.
