Description

The majestic palace of Sassuolo is the most splendid palatial residence built by the Este family after the devolution of Ferrara. It stands on the foundations of the ancient medieval castle, extended by the Della Rosa family and enriched by the Pio di Savoia family. The architect of Sassuolo’s fortunes was Francesco I, who, thanks to the work of artists such as Bartolomeo Advini, Angelo Michele Colonna, Agostino Mitelli, Gian Giacomo Monti and Jean Boulanger, created a residence of rare charm, in which scenographic baroque experiments were pioneered before being exported to other cities in the region.
