Description

Little is known about the majestic Gothic building in Via del Cammello, identified as the house of Stella Tolomei dell’Assassino, the favourite among the numerous lovers of Nicolò III d’Este, mother of his successors Leonello and Borso.

Documented since 1411, the palace today appears as a tall, compact building in terracotta, with an opening at the rear, enriched by the ogival portal of the façade, decorated with mouldings also in terracotta, and several rows of windows. The typology is the same as the house at number 20 of the same Via del Cammello, considered the residence donated by the Marquis to his engineer and architect Bartolino Ploti da Novara.

In 2012, the Province of Ferrara granted use of the Stella dell’Assassino building to the Contrada di Santa Maria in Vado, which had been left without an office due to the earthquake.
