Description

Of all the monasteries in Modena, the Salesian convent was perhaps the most closely linked to the House of Este. Commissioned by Duchess Laura Martinozzi, wife of Alfonso IV, it was founded in 1669 with the arrival of eight nuns from Aix-en-Provence.

Designed with simple lines by Gaspare Vigarani, it maintained its function until 1873, when it became a military school serving the nearby Academy.
