Description

The ancient convent of the Osservanti friars was located outside the walls, near Porta Bologna: when Ercole II demolished it to extend the city walls, the friars were transferred to the rectory of S. Margherita. During the Napoleonic era, the convent was transformed into a barracks; in 1834, the complex was completely renovated to a design by Francesco Vandelli. Since 2005, it has been home to various cultural institutions, including the Vecchi-Tonelli Institute of Music and the Delfini Library.
