Daniele Pascale
Palazzo dei Principi/biblioteca comunale "Giulio Einaudi"
Andrea Mantegna, Antonio Allegri, Cesare Cesariano, Guido Zucchini, Pier Vittorio Tondelli
This beautiful Renaissance palace was erected by Francesca di Brandeburgo, widow of Count Borso da Correggio, around 1508. It features architectural elements similar to those typical of the Ferrara Renaissance by Biagio Rossetti: corner pilaster, twin windows, and a porticoed internal courtyard. After the end of the Lordship of Correggio, the palace rapidly declined; it was completely restored at the beginning of the 20th century by Guido Zucchini.
Inside, it preserves some decorated rooms and houses various cultural institutions, such as the “il Correggio” museum which exhibits works ranging from the Roman age to the 19th century, the “Giulio Einaudi” library and the city’s historical archives.
