Description

This large square, which has as its backdrop the imposing façade of the Ducal Palace, has a history closely linked to that of the Este dynasty. When the court arrived in Modena, the space was often used for ceremonial celebrations, with the installation of ephemeral monumental displays. In 1783, plans began to be made to regulate the basin of water, works that were only partially realised in the first half of the 19th century.
