Description

The current appearance of the Rocca di San Polo, repeatedly at the centre of military clashes and subject to destruction, is the result of further transformations culminating in the late 18th century when the building ceased to function as a military outpost and took on the role of a noble residence.

The fortified complex of San Polo, of which the fortress was an integral part, consisted in its entirety as a fortified circuit with a drawbridge and perimeter moat. As well as the fortress, now the town hall, the remains of some castle structures, absorbed in the construction of the current parish church, are worth noting. The church was built on the foundations of the ancient walls, while the baptistery was built on the structure of the only surviving tower, which was reduced in height.
