Description

The Palazzo Comunale has been the seat of Reggio’s highest institutions since 1417, when the earlier municipal residence (now Palazzo del Monte) was abandoned. The palace was enlarged over the centuries, until the radical redesign in 1772 by Lodovico Bolognini, which entailed above all the creation of the dramatic Sala del Consiglio, which gained fame for being the place in which the parliament of the Cispadane Republic voted, in 1797, to adopt the tricolour, later used as the flag of unified Italy.
